Messy Museum @ Erewash Museum – Night One

Wow-what a great Night at the Ilkeston Lights Switch on.

The Ilkeston Methodist Church recently participated in the Ilkeston Lights Switch on event at the Erewash Museum. Despite the scaled-down event due to illness and low staff, the team still went to support and was well-received, with over 1,000 people passing through the gates.

In addition to being present at the Christmas market, the team also set up at the Cantelupe Centre on the marketplace, where they joined other stallholders in spreading the Christmas spirit. Visitors were entertained with a spinning wheel game, where they could win a prize by lining up a star with the nativity scene. The team also set up a Christmas Spirit Tree, where visitors could write the name of someone they could do a small act of kindness for on a tree shape to be displayed at the Christmas festival.

The team also made Christmas cards to send to injured soldiers recovering in the hospital, and offered a variety of crafts such as making wooden angel, Santa, and snowmen Christmas decorations, and coloring sheets. The team distributed leaflets with Christmas worship and nativity books as well.

It was a successful night for the Ilkeston Methodist Church, who were able to help, support, and be part of the community while sharing the Christmas message. The team’s efforts were greatly appreciated and they should be proud of their contribution to the event.
