Advent 2 – The Orange in the Stocking
Advent 2 - The Orange in the Stocking
Rediscovering the Gift of Giving
Gift-giving God, may Advent be for us a time of giving and receiving.
As we journey through Advent, we’re invited to pause and reflect on the gifts we give and receive. This week, our theme is “The Orange in the Stocking”—a simple, sweet reminder that the most meaningful gifts are often those that nourish, surprise, and bring hope.
Psalm 72 paints a picture of leadership rooted in justice and compassion, not power or wealth. It’s a call to use
What influence do you have (at home, school, work, church, community), and how might you use it more intentionally for others’ wellbeing?
What would it look like if we saw our power as a gift to be shared, not hoarded?
The Bible readings: Psalm 72:1–7, 18–19 and Matthew 3:8
Reflective Questions:
What’s one habit or priority you’d like to change to become a better gift to those around you?
How can we help each other notice and celebrate these qualities?
Where do you see examples – past or present – of people using their power as a gift to others?

Message: – Let the Spirit clear away what clutters and distracts, and shape you into a holy gift – a tree of life in a world hungry for hope. This is your calling: Bear fruit. Be bold. Be the gift.
